Scholarship Details
The DJC Scholarship was established in partnership with the Community Foundation for Northern Virginia as a donor administered endowment fund. Every year since 2022, this fund has awarded scholarships to deserving students who embody the commitment to education while juggling all the responsibilities of life, as did the scholarship's namesake.
Amount
One non-renewable scholarship of $1,000 to $2,000 is awarded each year, supporting the recipient's educational journey.
Deadline
Applications must be received by April 15th for the upcoming academic year. Ensure your application is complete and submitted on time.
Eligibility Criteria
Preference will be given to "nontraditional" applicants, defined as meeting one or more of the following criteria determined by the National Center for Education Statistics:
- Student attends college part-time
- Student works full-time while in school
- Student has delayed enrollment into postsecondary education
- Student is recognized as financially independent for financial aid purposes
- Student has dependents other than a spouse
- Student is a single parent
- Student passed a General Education Development (GED) exam or earned a certificate of high school completion instead of a standard high school diploma
- Preference will be given to applicants attending Northern Virginia Community College
- Applicant must clearly demonstrate the unique challenges associated with returning to school
Application Process
1. Complete the application form
Download and fill out the DJC Scholarship application form with your personal and academic information. Make sure all fields are accurately completed.
2. Attach required documents
- Official transcripts from high school and any colleges attended
- At least one character reference letter
3. Write a personal statement
Submit a personal statement of up to 500 words explaining why you are applying for the DJC Scholarship and how it will impact your life and educational journey.
4. Submit by April 15th
